Girls in ICT – It’s time to shatter stereotypes and break barriers!

It's time to shatter stereotypes and break barriers! Girls in ICT Day is just around the corner, and we're thrilled to be a part of this global movement to empower girls and women in technology. The annual event is celebrated yearly on the 27th of May. This year we are going to mark the Girls in ICT Day at the spaces of RIT Kosovo to expose young women girls to the world of tech careers in Kosovo, to aid them through job opportunities as well as to develop their skills and knowledge in this field through a variety of workshops.

We celebrate this day and mark the event under the theme “Digital Skills for Life.” With digitalization taking over our daily lives, the inclusion of women and girls in ICT and related fields is necessary considering that the field includes people of high importance that affect the decision-making process in every aspect of our life. The event aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICT.

This edition of the Conference is organized under the patronage of the Municipality of Prishtina as part of the initiative #VajzatnëTIK23!

Girls in ICT Conference will start at 9.30 a.m with welcoming remarks of Ms.Abetare Gojani, Executive Director of IPKO Foundation, Ms. Donjeta Sahatçiu – Deputy Mayor of Municipality of Prishtina, and Ms.Arlinda Hajdari - Co-Op and Career Office Coordinator, RIT Kosovo.

The Conference will continue with the inspiring talk of our Keynote Speaker, Ms.Annea Futko - a mechatronics engineer and robotics enthusiast with a Bachelor's degree from UBT College in Kosovo. She gained experience as a teaching assistant and academic affairs coordinator at UBT before pursuing a Master's program in Cybernetics and Robotics at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

Annea is willing to promote education and encourage more girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. She firmly believes that everyone should have the opportunity to explore their interests and talents, regardless of their background or gender.

After that, the young women and girls participating will have the opportunity to hear a very constructive discussion about demystifying Artificial Intelligence with Mr. Ermal Sadiku and Ms.Alma Fazliu, moderated by Teuta Sahatqija – Ambassador of Women in Tech Kosovo Chapter. This edition of the conference will focus on “demystifying Artificial Intelligence. Our way of learning, doing business, and living is changed for good with the arrival of ChatGPT, DALL-e, Midjourney, and other AI-empowered platforms, while on the one hand, causing resistance to accept these technologies, fear of ethics and breach of privacies, and on the other hand the need of embracing them and making our life easier.

During the conference, panelists will open the discussion about the presence of AI in our lives, in education, business, health, and marketing, aiming to demystify AI for the audience.

For girls and young women to thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers, they need to acquire skills to become both ICT users and creators in the digital world. Through this year’s agenda, we will be hosting three different workshops to encourage young women and girls to learn more about the prosperity that the field brings as well as advance their skills. The workshops will be based on Cybersecurity, Military Operations, and GIS (Geographical Information System).

One of the main activities of this day will be the Job Fair, which will guide young women and girls about the employment process and inform them more about the requirements and career prospects of Kosovo businesses.

The Girls in ICT event is part of a broader effort to address the gender gap in the tech industry, where women are still underrepresented in many roles, including leadership positions. By promoting gender diversity and empowering girls to pursue careers in ICT, we want to create a more inclusive and innovative tech industry that reflects the diversity of society as a whole.

The Job Fair provides opportunities for networking and mentorship, allowing participants to connect with some of the most prestigious companies in Kosovo. This year’s fair will bring a few companies with open jobs and intern positions and gain insights into various career paths in ICT.

Through these activities, our goal is to create equal digital opportunities for all and to explore the digital job market of Kosovo as well as further advance ICT skills.

Don’t miss out and join us on the 27th of April for Girls in ICT Day at the spaces of RIT Kosovo!
