Empowering Gjilan’s Youth: Unleashing the Transformative Force of Critical Media Literacy

In the pursuit of our mission to empower the youth of Kosovo and enhance their critical media skills, Innovation Hub Gjilan achieved yet another milestone. IPKO Foundation, in collaboration with UNICEF Kosovo Program and financially supported by the Municipality of Gjilan, embarked on a journey of inspiration and learning with approximately 30 young minds by implementing Ponder training.

With the aim to equip the younger generation with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complex landscape of modern media. This undertaking was fueled by the vision of nurturing the next wave of media-savvy individuals who can discern the truth from the noise and craft their narratives with finesse.

Ever since the inception of Innovation Hub Gjilan, we have strived to garner support not just from UNICEF Kosovo Program but also from local authorities, such as the Municipality of Gjilan. In this endeavor, we successfully secured a grant through an open call from the Directorate of Culture, Youth, and Sport in Gjilan to implement the training program - Ponder, thus marking a significant achievement for our programs and hub.

The training program spanned three intensive days, commencing with a grand opening ceremony with presence of representatives from the Municipality of Gjilan, IPKO Foundation, and UNICEF Kosovo Program. Their presence underscored the importance of our mission, and they offered their heartfelt congratulations and words of encouragement to the engaged participants.

The heart of the program lay in imparting essential skills to our participants, all under the guidance of their mentors. Through a series of illustrations, practical examples, and modules from the Ponder Program, our young participants delved deep into the world of media literacy. With every passing session, they honed their critical thinking and media analysis skills.

Taking this newfound knowledge and proficiency to the next level, three exceptional participants from the training group were chosen for an exciting opportunity. They will embark on a one-month internship with a local media outlet, where they will learn directly from media experts, gaining hands-on experience that will undoubtedly shape their futures.

As we reflect on this successful program, we eagerly anticipate future opportunities to collaborate and being supported by local authorities like Municipality of Gjilan, in order to continue our collective efforts to empower and uplift youth community through enhanced media literacy.
