Kick-off of the project “Reshaping the Future: Kosovo Women on the Front Line of AI & Cyber”

We are thrilled to announce our new project, “Reshaping the Future: Kosovo Women on the Front Line of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity,” implemented by IPKO Foundation and Women in Tech Kosovo, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kosovo, which aims to empower young women and girls in Kosovo and improve their digital skills to identify and fight cyber threats by training them in gender-based cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence.

The kick-off activity of the project was the panel discussion “She's AI: Accelerating Women's Representation in the World of Artificial Intelligence” with panelists Ms. Lieke Lamb, CEO of the Future Expertise Center and Director of Women in Tech The Netherlands; Pavan Turaga, Professor and Director in the School of Arts, Media, and Engineering at Arizona State University; Ms. Hafize Bajrami – Chief of Cyber Defense Section - Ministry of Defense and Mr. Arbnor Pajaziti – professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Prishtina, who highlighted the need for gender-bias training and greater education of machine learning and AI to ensure an equal and fair outcome.

Our expert panelists skilled our audience on the many important issues resulting from the continued lack of gender equality in today's tech industry. This discussion - whose topics ranged from gender bias in tech building to the inclusivity measures needed to ensure an equal and fair future for all who participate in the industry - worked to continue the dialogue around how far the tech community has come regarding gender inclusivity and the many hurdles' women still face when trying to break into this increasingly important industry.

Topics covered included how the tech industry can be more accountable, how the lack of female representation affects women’s involvement in tech, AI’s increasingly unique role in women’s social lives, the consequences of not having diverse AI input, and AI’s ability to affect negatively and positively the world of cybersecurity. Responsible user practices were also reiterated as something that is continuously necessary, showcasing the ever-present unsureness about exactly how big a role AI will play in our future.

Looking forward to working together and contributing to building a better future for young women and girls to thrive in tech industry.
