Inclusion for everyone – Happy UN Day 2022!

Let's celebrate the 77th anniversary of the United Nations!

With a lot of energy, creative activities, and inspiring speeches, we celebrated on October 24, the 77th birthday of the United Nations!

The team of IPKO Foundation, Down Syndrome Kosovo, together with the advocacy group of people with Down syndrome, children, and parents, visited the UN House in Kosovo and UNMIK Kosovo while having fun with lots of creative activities.

UN Development Coordinator Mrs.Arnhild Spence met the group and congratulated them on the #Inclusion campaign, emphasizing that we must continue to work together so that people with Down syndrome are fully integrated into society and can reach their full potential.

“We are pleased to host IPKO Foundation and Down Syndrome Kosova to celebrate UN Day with us. For the past month, our INCLUSIVITY advocacy campaign has reached all corners of Kosovo, and we are proud to support and promote rights for all!’, UN DC Arnhild Spence said.

The Executive Director of IPKO Foundation, Abetare Gojani, said that UN Agencies in Kosovo are essential partners of IPKO Foundation and thanked them for their outstanding work and contribution to a better world, which enables all people to enjoy peace, prosperity, and their rights.

“We as IPKO Foundation feel privileged to have been and continue to be part of this journey, promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ) and the 2030 Agenda” she stated.

“Together we can create the opportunity for girls, people with down syndrome, and all communities in Kosovo to realize their full potential. For children with Down syndrome, just one day or one month is not enough. They need our support every day, so every day we have to focus on taking care of them”, she continued her message.

After the welcoming remarks, several videos created by UN agencies over the years were played, one of them including "Frankie the Dino." Guests had the opportunity to see the improvised Frankie the Dino on the premises, which brought joy and excitement to them.

The activities planned for UN Day continued with the visit to UNMIK Kosovo, where we were welcomed by the Head of UNMIK in Kosovo, Mrs. Caroline Ziadeh, who thanked the IPKO Foundation and Down Syndrome Kosovo for making it possible for the United Nations to celebrate its 77th birthday in such an inclusive way.

"What you are doing echoes and resonates with what the UN stands for. We at the UN stand for humanity, we stand for human rights, and we stand for hope!’, UN SRSG Caroline Ziadeh said.

Together we painted, sang, danced, and played, making such a pleasant visit unforgettable.
