Building digital resilience through transforming girls into cybersecurity experts in Kosovo

IPKO Foundation and Women in Tech Kosovo are thrilled to champion the growth of a new wave of cybersecurity experts among young women in Kosovo.

This initiative, part of the project "Reshaping the Future: Kosovo Women on the Front Line of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity," recently concluded in Gjilan with the inspiring training of 10 dedicated girls aged 14 – 18.

In October, our efforts expanded, reaching 50 girls across Prishtina, Lipjan, Gjakova, Prizren, and Gjilan. The focus extended to girls from deep rural areas, ensuring that even those with limited access to information technology training could build resilience against cyber-attacks such as stalking and bullying. These young minds delved into crucial topics, including online safety, threat awareness, strong passwords, cyber hygiene, ethical hacking basics, and secure coding principles.

By arming these bright minds with knowledge and skills, we are not only shaping the future of cybersecurity but also fostering a safer online environment for the women and girls of Kosovo.

Our collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kosovo is a source of excitement as we work together to elevate the digital skills of young girls in the region.

The Cybersecurity training started on International Girl Child Day, October 11, with twenty girls aged 14-18 from Prishtina and Lipjan, who immersed themselves in cybersecurity training, enhancing their abilities to navigate the digital landscape and protect themselves from cyber risks.

Collaboration with municipal institutions helped identify and support girls from underserved areas. The participating schools, including professional schools, gymnasiums, and medical schools, contributed to the program's diversity, amplifying its impact.

The knowledge gained during the training will not be confined to the participants; it will be shared within their communities, magnifying the positive influence of this initiative. Together, we are sowing the seeds for a more secure and empowered future for the young women of Kosovo.
