Ponder – WIKI Academy Kosovo

This weekend we gathered 40 young critics who contributed to the richness of Albanian credible articles in the online world!

IPKO Foundation joined forces with UNICEF Innovation Labs and Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group, to organize another edition of WIKI Ponder: Critical Media Literacy Workshop. During this 3-Day workshop, we invited critical thinkers coming from 3 municipalities: Gjakova, Mitrovica and Fushe Kosova as part of the “Education for Employability” project.
PONDER – Wiki Academy Workshop is focused on critical media literacy, with the aim to improve skills on critical thinking, writing and reading, and understanding and challenging subjective information, by being included directly in the process of creating articles in Wikipedia.

On day 1, the participants started the day by being part of ice-breaking activities, energizers, and team building activities. The second part of the day consisted of understanding the principles of critical writing, plagiarism, differentiating fake news from credible news. During day 2, they dove into critical reading, interpretation of images, and moral dilemmas. They took part in a number of interactive sessions to share their ideas on how to build appropriate interpretations for current and future generations, explored the different types of media and the influence that they have on our day to day activities. On our last day, through mentorship by the  mentors and Wikimedians, the participants divided into 10 groups and wrote articles on different topics such as: Mines in Kosovo, Technology & Radio in Kosovo, Missing people of Kosovo, Kosovo: a short history of Kosovo, Nightlife in Kosovo, Traffic safety in Kosovo, Violence of women during the last war, Crime in Kosovo, Environment in Kosovo. All of these articles were written in Albanian and are now published in the largest online encyclopedia.
