A story from Tropoja: How Wiki Academy affected my life

My name is Edona Seci, and I am a teenager who loves fashion sketches, drawings, and technology. I always fancied the social networks and everything related to technology. My life motto is “Creativity is intelligence having fun,” and I always believed that the biggest success in life is loving what you do and trusting yourself in the way you do it. Everything must start from you. This is the story of how I became a part of Wiki Academy and how this experience changed a lot in me.

I was in Literature class when I got invited to listen to a presentation about a project related to Wikipedia. My curiosity was immense since I became obsessed with every single thing about Wiki Academy Kukes. I applied when I got home and later I received an email confirming my participation.

It was Gjimnazi “Havzi Nela” in Kukes, where the first training began. IPKO Foundation team did an incredible job by explaining to us what the project was all about, trained us and instructed us for everything we wanted and needed to know.  Wiki Academy Kukes was an open contest for the best articles and photos, which aimed the enrichment of the Albanian Wikipedia content.  The IF team taught us how to write the articles professionally and how to publish them in Wikipedia.

Participating in Wiki Academy Kukes was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Researching about the article, grabbing information from various publishing, searching for more references, and committing to our work, was a great experience.

It’s what we choose to learn and do for the society that defines us as human beings. We are a part of this society and we are the only one responsible for advancing it. Wiki Academy Kukes changed me and changed a lot of people. It changed the way we see the world. It taught us a great way of contributing to the world. The secret of change is to focus all of our energy, not on fighting the old but on building the new.

We had the opportunity to meet new people, discover more about our region, learn a lot and have an amazing weekend. I always thought the world needed a surgery but now I know it is up to us to change the course of the operation. You have no idea how little things can change the course of your life. So, if you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal.
